Sacrament of Reconciliation at

Fond du Lac Cathedral

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse

us from all unrighteousness." – 1 John 1:9

Welcome to the Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is a sacred opportunity to receive God’s mercy and healing. Through this sacrament, we confess our sins, express contrition, and receive absolution, restoring our relationship with God and the Church. At the Fond du Lac Cathedral, we invite all to experience the peace and grace that come from God’s forgiveness.

Why Participate in Reconciliation?

  • It renews and strengthens our relationship with God.
  • It provides spiritual healing and peace of heart.
  • It prepares us to worthily receive the Eucharist.
  • It helps us grow in holiness and avoid sin in the future.

How to Prepare for Confession

  1. Examine Your Conscience – Reflect on your thoughts, words, and actions since your last confession.
  2. Be Truly Sorry for Your Sins – Have sincere contrition and a desire to change.
  3. Confess Your Sins – Speak honestly and openly with the priest.
  4. Receive Absolution – Accept God’s mercy through the words of the priest.
  5. Do Your Penance – Fulfill the act of penance assigned to you.

First Reconciliation for Children

Children preparing for their First Holy Communion must receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation beforehand. Our preparation program helps children understand the meaning of sin, forgiveness, and God’s love.

Returning to Confession After a Long Time?

If it has been a while since your last confession, do not be afraid. The priest will guide you through the process and help you experience the joy of God's mercy.
