Marriage is a sacred covenant, a lifelong commitment of love and faithfulness blessed by God. At the Fond du Lac Cathedral, we are honored to witness and celebrate this profound union as couples begin their journey together in Christ.


Marriage Preparation

The Sacrament of Marriage requires spiritual preparation and a deep understanding of its significance. Our marriage preparation program is designed to help couples build a strong foundation in faith, love, and commitment.


Requirements for Marriage at the Cathedral:


  • At least one partner must be a baptized Christian.
  • Couples must complete pre-marital counseling.
  • If either partner was previously married, special permission from the Bishop may be needed.
  • Weddings are preferred (not required) to be scheduled at least six months in advance to allow time for preparation.

How far in advance should we schedule our wedding?


Weddings should be scheduled at least six months in advance to allow time for preparation and required pre-marital counseling.


Do we need to be registered parishioners to get married at Fond du Lac Cathedral?


At least one partner should be a baptized Christian. Non-parishioners are allowed to marry at the Cathedral.


What are the requirements for marriage at the Cathedral?

Can we have a wedding if one of us is not Christian?


Yes, a Christian can marry a non-Christian as long as one person is baptized. The wedding can be celebrated within or outside of Mass, depending on the circumstances.


Are we allowed to have outside musicians or photographers at our wedding?


Yes, but they must follow Cathedral guidelines regarding sacred music and respectful photography during the ceremony.
