The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, also known as holy unction, is a powerful
expression of God’s healing love and mercy. It is given to those who are seriously ill,
facing surgery, or experiencing the frailty of old age. Through prayer and the anointing
with holy oil, the sacrament strengthens the sick person’s soul and, when God wills it, brings physical healing.
