Infant and Child Baptism
For families seeking baptism for their child, we offer a welcoming and faith-filled process to prepare parents and godparents for this sacred commitment. Our baptismal preparation sessions provide guidance on the meaning of the sacrament and the responsibilities of raising a child in the Christian faith.
Requirements for Infant Baptism:
- At least one parent must be a practicing Christian.
- Godparents must be baptized, confirmed, and practicing Christians.
- Parents must attend a pre-baptismal preparation session.

Do we need to be registered parishioners to have our child baptized?
While it is preferred that families are registered parishioners of Fond du Lac Cathedral,
exceptions can be made. If you are not a registered member, contact the office for more information.
What are the requirements for godparents?
At least one godparent must be baptized.
Do parents and godparents need to attend a preparation class?
Yes, parents and godparents are required to attend a baptismal preparation class to understand the significance of the sacrament and their roles in the child's spiritual life.
What should my child wear for baptism?
A white baptismal gown or outfit is traditionally worn to symbolize purity and new life in Christ. If a white garment is not available, a white bib or stole may be provided during the ceremony.
What should an adult or teen wear for baptism?
Normal Sunday attire.
