First Communion at Fond du Lac Cathedral
"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.'" – John 6:35
Welcome to the Sacrament of First Holy Communion
The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is a significant milestone in a child's faith journey. It is the moment when they receive the Eucharist for the first time, deepening their relationship with Christ and becoming full participants in the life of the Church. At the Fond du Lac Cathedral, we are honored to guide children and their families through this sacred and joyful occasion.
Preparation for First Communion
Our First Communion preparation program is designed to help children understand the meaning of the Eucharist and develop a deeper connection to their Catholic faith. Through religious education, prayer, and family involvement, children will be spiritually prepared to receive this sacrament with reverence and joy.
Requirements for First Communion:
- Children must be baptized in the Catholic Church (a baptismal certificate is required).
- Children must be at least seven years old (the age of reason) and enrolled in a parish religious education program or Catholic school.
- Families must actively participate in the preparation process, including attending parent meetings and sacramental preparation sessions.
- Children must receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) before their First Communion.
- Regular attendance at Mass is encouraged to help children grow in their understanding of the Eucharist.
Celebrating First Communion
First Communion is typically celebrated during the Easter season. The ceremony takes place within a special Mass, where children receive the Eucharist surrounded by their family, friends, and parish community.
